He was born January 29, 1900, in Edina, Knox County, Missouri, the son of Bertha and William Marquardt. He married Lucile Davis, May 4, 1926, in Marysville, Kansas. They were the parents of son (Billy James Marquard) and one daughter (Joy Lorraine Marquardt-Temple). They lived at the present home at 305 North Fifth since 1936. He was a barber for 50 years in Marysville. He was a member of St. Gregory catholic church. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters Emma, Ella, Mary Goldy, and Virgina, and brothers John, Tom, Bill, and Joe Ambrose. Survivors are his wife, Margaret Lucile Margardt of home; his son, Billy Marquardt, Ankeny, Iowa; and his daughter, Joy Temple, Marysville, Kansas; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother Leo Marquardt, Kansas City, Missouri. ******************************************************* The Marquardts Retire Today, New Owner of Beauty Ship 1970 - The Marysville Advocate. The Marysville Advacate. A Marysville husband and wife team catering to barber and beauty needs of the trade area retired today. They are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marquardt, owners of Shorty and Lucile's shop at 710 Center, who have sold their buriness to Mrs. Lila McIntyre, Seneca. Marquardt came here in 1923 from Edina, Mo., where he was born and raised and worked his apprenticeship before joining Charlie Cooper in the Brunswick. He was to remain on Broadway for 18 years, being employed consecutively by Clyde Potter two years; Cecil Brown at Brownies ship five years, and also at the Pacific hotel. About the time of the outbreak of World War II, "Shorty" as he is known to a multitude of longtime customers moved to Center street to the present Brauchi building. He has been at the present location since 1946. Small boys who had their first haircuts, now are bringing their sons to Marquardt. He has been in business long enough to serve three generations and see a complete cycle of hair styling, beginning with the present fashionable full head of hair, reversing to the shaved crew cut and then the dove tail and back to the full hair style whith side burns. Mrs. Marquardt joined her husband as a case of necessity in 1936 when he purchased an adjoining beauty shop from an operator and had no beautician to work for him. She took a course at Katheryn's Bedauty school at Beatrice, Neb., and spent six days weekly glamourizing her large clientile until recent years. She has weathered the cycle of croquinole permanents to cold wave, and finger waving to teased bouffants, and "I still love to finger wave," she affirms. Without taking time off for a vacation from 1923 to 1944, Shorty is looking forward to days of ease. His wife who has been pushing a crowed and tight schedule, is looking forward to joining her husband in some traveling. Fishing and hunting will be on his agenda in the new year, he says. Married May 4, 1926, while the former Lucile Davis was attending Marysville High School, the couple are parents of two children, Billy Marquardt, Ankeny, Iowa, and Mrs. Doyle Temple, city.
