He was born April 20, 1925, to Ralph Gerhard and Gertrude May (Richards) Sandman at Beatrice, Neb., the last remaining of ten siblings. Read More	Obituary Charles 'Charlie' Lee Sandman, 80, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Neb. He was born April 20, 1925, to Ralph Gerhard and Gertrude May (Richards) Sandman at Beatrice, Neb., the last remaining of ten siblings. Moving from Harbine, Neb., Charlie grew up near Wauneta and graduated from Wauneta High School. He married Marilyn Elizabeth Behlke on Sept. 12, 1948. To this union three sons, Alan, Chuck and Ron, were born. Charlie farmed near Benkelman until a heart attack limited his active participation. He still loved to drive around the section, checking on the farm with either one of the grandkids or Vegas (Sandy's dog) riding along. Charlie took up golf late in life and really enjoyed playing regularly with his golfing buddies. He retold his hole-in-one story many times to anyone who hadn't already heard it or who would listen to it again. Always a Husker fan, he attended several bowl games over the years. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ger-trude Sandman; his wife, Marilyn; brothers: Clarence, Virgil, Jack, Ralph Jr., Richard and Gary; sisters: Leah, Bernice and Irma. Those who survive him include his sons: Alan Sandman, Chuck Sandman and wife Andi and Ron Sandman; very special friend and companion, Sandra Brunkhorst; grandchildren: Kara, Tabatha, Shawn, Tracy, Bobby, Jami and Joni; great granddaughter, Kayla; sisters-in-law Edie, Verna, Ona and Bonnie Sandman and Verle Behlke; brother-in-law, Bill Neverve; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Charlie will be missed by many of those he has left behind. Yet, we all can be comforted in the knowledge that Charlie has now been reunited with loved ones and friends, as he ventures forward in a "new beginning." Funeral services were held Monday, March 27, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman with Rev. Brian Fong and Pastor Greg Sandman officiating. Organist was Betty Erdman, Kelly Hayward was vocalist. Selections chosen were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Ron Ham, Ron Pursley, Denny Vrbas, Jim Mullanix, Tony Wonderly, Roger Howard, Robert Glasco and Jerry Kisela. Interment followed the service at the Benkelman Cemetery. Memorials may be given in his name. Arrangements were under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
