Betts, 49, teacher at Quaker City High School and the high school basketball coach for a number of years, died Wednesday at 3 a.m. at Grant Hospital, Columbus, following an illness of several weeks. He had been under the care of Dr. Kenneth Frakes of Quaker City for some time, but he had continued to teach school until last Thursday when he was confined to his home. He had been under the care of Dr. Kenneth Frakes of Quaker City for some time, but he had continued to teach school until last Thursday when he was confined to his home. He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday evening when his condition became more serious. Widely known in Guernsey County, he was admired and respected as a sportsman who had enjoyed marked success with a succession of Quaker City High School basketball teams. His teams were perennial contenders for the county title and advanced to district and regional tournaments in several seasons. He commanded the admiration and friendship of every boy who had played for him, and among southeastern Ohio coaches he was universally known as a gracious winner and a good loser. A son of Curtis and Ella Morgan Betts, he was born Nov. 20, 1902 at Batesville in Noble County. He was a member of the Quaker City Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Mary; one son, Paul of Quaker City; one daughter, Louella of the home; one sister, Mrs. Ernest Moore of Quaker City, and three brothers, Richard of Cambridge, Jesse of Eaton and Ralph of Barnesville. A brother and sister are deceased. The body will be removed to the Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City; where it will remain for services to be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. Rev.
