Charles Crandall was born in Richland county, Ohio, Oct. 19, 1833, and died at his home in Chequest township, this county, April 28, 1900. He moved with his parents from Ohio to this county and settled on the farm now owned by Mrs. Wm. V. Fellows in the year 1836. This county has been his residence from the latter date to his death. Read More	AN OLD PIONEER. ``````````````` Death of Charles Crandall of Chequest Who Came to This County in 1836. Charles Crandall was born in Richland county, Ohio, Oct. 19, 1833, and died at his home in Chequest township, this county, April 28, 1900. He moved with his parents from Ohio to this county and settled on the farm now owned by Mrs. Wm. V. Fellows in the year 1836. This county has been his residence from the latter date to his death. He married Sarah E. daughter of Samuel and Rachel Robinson of this county, Feb. 20, 1853. A wife and eight children survive him. He never made a public profession of religion nor belonged to any organized church, yet he was a firm believer in a supreme being and of the immortality of the spirit. He had implicit confidence in a providential supervision over the natural forces of the world, and that men's stewardship will be righteously judged in the world to come. He expressed a readiness and willingness to exchange this earth life for the spiritual, and feared not its consequences. He had no school education, but was a close student of nature and seldom made a mistake in delineating the character of his fellow men. Like the unpolished diamond, his coarser nature frequently obscured the finer and better qualities within. Having received his early impressions from the Indian and early pioneer, his course in life was directed in accordance with the light within him. Industrious, kind and generous to a fault, no man or beast ever left his home in hunger or want if it was in his power to help them.
