Description	:	Dewey Bofman was born Nov 3, 1899 in Greencastle, MO, to George and Lucinda (Ishmael) Bofman. He grew up around Trenton and Laredo MO. During World War I he entered the US Army for two years on 3/28/1918. In the early Nineteen thirties he met Bessie Cole of Newcastle, Wyoming and they were married in Deadwood North Dakota on 25 Jan 1934. He built his own sawmill and made lumber and later sold it. Dewey, Bessie and his 5 children moved to Missouri around 1949 where he leased a portable sawmill and milled lumber along the Missouri River. Some of the smaller towns that they lived in was Percival, Iowa, Nishnabotna, Missouri, Rulo, Nebraska, and Nemaha, Nebraska. Their final child was born in 1954 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. In 1962 he retired and moved to Sunnyside, Washington where he resided with his wife Bessie until his death in 1975. Dewey loved spending time with his family especially his (4) grandkids. He made several small wooden steam engines that had parts which moved when they were pushed. He gave them to grandkids, relatives and friends, he spent a lot of time in his workshop crafting them. He loved playing solitaire which was likely what he would be doing when not working on his steam engines. In his earlier years he liked deer and antelope hunting and fishing. He like telling stories about side hill gougers, and jack a lopes. After posting this obituary here I was contacted by Jess, looking for a relative of Dewey, He had purchased Dewey's WWI dog tag off of EBAY and wanted to get it back to his family. It is now in possession of his son and will be passed on to his grandson in the future. Jess refused to be compensated for his investment and he deserves a great big THANK YOU, glad to see there is still people around with thoughtfulness and generosity like him. Would be interesting to know the story of the dog tag as it is 95 years old now.
