Read More	Veteran From Poweshiek Obituaries: Charles Dorrance Busby, son of Dr. Isaac N. and Jennie Conaway Busby, was born in Brooklyn, Iowa, on February 19, 1870. He attended school in Brooklyn, graduating from the High school in 1887. Thereafter he was employed as a teacher in the rural schools of Poweshiek county and in the Brooklyn public schools. He attended Iowa Wesleyan college at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, for two years, then began his course of studies in medicine at Marion Sims Medical college at St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1897. Immediately after his graduation he returned to Brooklyn and became associated with his father and his uncle, Dr. Charles D. Conaway, in the practice of medicine under the firm name of Conaway, Busby and Busby. After the death of Dr. Conaway, the surviving members of this firm continued the practice under the firm name of Busby and Busby until the death of Dr. Isaac N. Busby on July 17, 1923, since which time Dr. Charles D. Busby maintained his office and practice without associates, until the date of his death on January 8, 1937, thus completing almost forty years of uninterrupted service to this community, save during his absence during the World War, and thus closing an office and a medical practice maintained by the members of the Conaway and Busby families in Brooklyn continuously since 1857. Dr. Busby, in 1905, purchased the large home adjoining his office and therein operated a hospital for a number of years. His death occurred, after a brief illness of only two weeks, in the Community Hospital at Grinnell, with which hospital he had been prominently identified for many years, being at the time of his death the Chief of its MedicaDr. Busby, although exempt from enforced military service, volunteered his services to his country in the World War, enlisting on July 20, 1917, and was assigned to service as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. A. Medical Corps at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and later at Camp Bowie, Texas. Dr. Busby was married to Miss Virginia Newcomb in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 14, 1899, and to this union were born two children, Frances and Charles, both of whom together with his companion of almost two score years, survive. Dr. Busby is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Julia Busby Cole, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Mrs. Jennie Busby Wells, of Santa Barbara California. Another sister, Mrs. Verona Busby Dobbins, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died on Christmas night preceding Dr. Busby's death. l Staff.
