Collins was killed in action in Germany, Feb. 2, the war department has notified his wife, who lives in Chicago. He was the son of L.E. Collins of Douds. Collins was born Feb. 9, 1919, near Batavia and attended school at Selma, where he graduated in 1936. He had farmed until going to work in Chicago. Collins was born Feb. 9, 1919, near Batavia and attended school at Selma, where he graduated in 1936. He had farmed until going to work in Chicago. He was married July 27, 1942, at Memphis, Mo., to Miss Gloria Swanson of Chicago. Surviving are his wife, his father and stepmother, and a brother, Corp. Donald L. Collins, in the infantry in Italy. His mother preceded him in death in 1937, and a sister in 1935. He entered service Nov. 11, 1943, and trained at Camp Blanding, Fla., and Ft. Meade, Md., going overseas last spring. In July he was wounded in the left leg and in November was wounded in the left arm, later returning to his infantry company. Source: Van Buren Co.
