Read More	Double Tragedy Hits Family In Toponas The family of Charles Baker of Toponas faced a double tragedy last week, with the loss of two members of the family within two days. Charles Edward Baker, resident of Routt county for the past 31 years, passed away in the Kremmling Hospital on Thursday, May 16. On Friday afternoon, his son-in-law. William Henry Simansky, was involved in an accident 3 miles south of Yampa and passed away in the Routt county hospital at 8:40 that evening. Simansky and his wife, Robbie, who is the daughter of the late Mr. Baker, had driven from their home in Erie, Colorado, as soon as the news of their father’s condition reached them. Baker was 60 years old at the time of his death. Born in Big Flat, Arkansas on Aug. 5. 1908, he married Opal Huckabee in Harriett. Ark, on May 19, 1934. The Bakers moved to Routt County in 1937, where he was employed in the sawmill owned by George Bakke. Surviving are his wife, four daughters, Robbie Simansky of Erie, Charlene Johnson of Provo. Utah. Sherri and Vickie Baker of Toponas: one sister, Cora Reece of Big Flat, Ark.; four brothers, Dexter of Marshall, Ark., Floyd of Haron, Calif., Ollie of Onia, Ark., and John of Timbo, Ark.; and 11 grandchildren. Services conducted by the Rev. William Byrd, was held at the Yampa Bible Church in Yampa on Monday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in Yampa. Lila Rider sang "Beyond the Sunset” and "The Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Cecil Weston, Earl Ray, Charles Kier, Otto Gumprecht, Irvin Ramsey, Gay Bakke, Chet Sanders and Richard Ramsey. William Samansky [Simansky] of Erie, Colorado, died in the Routt County Memorial Hospital following an accident 3 miles south of Yampa on Friday; May 17. The accident occurred at 3 ;10 p.m. Born in Erie, Colorado on September 15, 1930, he had served in the Armed Forces with the Army. On May 25, 1961, he married Robbie Baker in Westminister, Colorado. At the time of his death, he was the superintendent of Kuner Kmpson Co. of Brighton. Surviving are his Wife: one daughter, Robyn Marie; four sisters, Helen Smaklooe. Agnes Petty and Gilda Jean Estep, all of Denver and Mary Jo Kesson of Mt. Horeb, Md; two brothers, Joseph Simansky of Colorado Springs and George Simansky of Erie: and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Simansky. Funeral arrangements were being made through the Lewellyn Mortuary. Published in The Steamboat Pilot, Number 42, May 23, 1968. In the 1920 Census, The 1920 census lists Charley living in Beaver, Searcy County, Arkansas with his parents and all 6 of his siblings. Charley is 12 years-old and can read and write. The 1930 census lists Charley living with his parents and 4 siblings in Beaver, Searcy, AR. he is a farm laborer. Charley and Opal moved from Arkansas to Colorado about 1937. Jimmie was born 1936 in Big Flat, and Robbie was born 1938 in Colorado. In 1940 Census, Charley and Opal are living with their 4 oldest children in Madison, AR. Charley rents their home and is a Timber Skidder. Charley's WW II draft card states that he was 5' 9" , 140 pounds, Dark complexion, brown hair and brown eyes. Charley passed on May 16, 1968, in Kremmling, Colorado, at the age of 59, and is resting beside Opal and son, Jimmie in Yampa, Colorado. Contributor: #(48724235)
