Description	:	Charles Edward Jacobs was born on March 11, 1932 to Nicholas and Lucy (Michalski) Jacobs in Harlan, Iowa. He attended Harlan High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. On May 25, 1951, he entered the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi and Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. Read More	Charles Edward Jacobs was born on March 11, 1932 to Nicholas and Lucy (Michalski) Jacobs in Harlan, Iowa. He attended Harlan High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. On May 25, 1951, he entered the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi and Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. He was honorably discharge on September 18, 1953 after the death of his father created a hardship for his family. He became a self-employed well driller upon his return to Shelby County, owning and operating Jacobs Well Drilling for several years providing water to area farmers. He was a hard working man and passed his work ethic on to his children. He attended a dance at the hall in Defiance, where he met Bonnie Kimmen, whom he wed on June 4, 1956. They became parents to seven children: David, Gary, Judy, Mark, Marcia, Barbara, and Theresa. He was a quiet man but a disciplinarian. Charles and Bonnie loved to travel and owned a winter home in Florida for many years. He enjoyed attending church at St. Michael’s and was instrumental in getting air conditioning installed there. He also loved to tinker and after moving to Elm Crest Retirement Community, tried assisting the staff with items that really did not need fixing. It was at Elm Crest that Charles died on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the age of eighty-four years, three months, and twenty-four days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Marcia, and brothers and sisters: Raymond Jacobs, Evelyn Anastasi, Lorraine Strub, Bernice Schmitz, LaVern Jacobs, Gordon Jacobs, Victor Jacobs, Betty Wolken, and Darlene Johnson. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Bonnie Jacobs of Harlan, Iowa; children: David Jacobs and his wife Nancy of Harlan, Iowa, Gary Jacobs and his wife Rosemary of Bennington, Nebraska, Judy and her husband Dennis Huss of Des Moines, Iowa, Mark Jacobs and his wife Kayla of Harlan, Iowa, Barbara Noble of Lakeland, Florida, and Theresa and her husband Audie Kemp of Westfield, Indiana; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Nick Jacobs and his wife Mary Helen of St. Louis, Missouri, Kenneth Jacobs and his wife Laverne of Bozeman, Montana, and James Jacobs and his wife Judy of Burlington, Iowa; sister Rose Ann and her husband Gary Larsen of Harlan; other family members and friends.
