Description	:	Charles "Ed" Heverin (July 15, 1927 - August 1, 2013) Ed Heverin, 86, eased across his final finish line on August 1, 2013. The son of William H. Heverin, Sr., and Sadie Mae Carrow, Ed attended Middletown High School prior to joining the United States Air Force, retiring as a Tech Sergeant, and General's Aide in 1970 after twenty years of service. Ed enjoyed his military career which took him to various locales, including France, Massachusetts, Georgia, Texas, California, Alaska, New Mexico, and Washington, DC. He continued to serve the military as a mess... Read More	Charles "Ed" Heverin (July 15, 1927 - August 1, 2013) Ed Heverin, 86, eased across his final finish line on August 1, 2013. The son of William H. Heverin, Sr., and Sadie Mae Carrow, Ed attended Middletown High School prior to joining the United States Air Force, retiring as a Tech Sergeant, and General's Aide in 1970 after twenty years of service. Ed enjoyed his military career which took him to various locales, including France, Massachusetts, Georgia, Texas, California, Alaska, New Mexico, and Washington, DC. He continued to serve the military as a mess hall manager in his retirement years. His employees were fond of "Mr. Ed" and he took pride in making the holidays special for non commissioned officers and their families. Retirement allowed him to attain his lifelong goal of working with horses, the family business. He owned several Standardbred racehorses over the years and trained many others. He spent many years racing at Rosecroft, Brandywine, and Laurel raceways, among others. Ed is survived by his son, E.A. Heverin and wife Beverly of Lewes, grandchildren Wendy Coryell and husband Michael, of Middletown; Samuel T. Heverin, of Drexel Hill, PA; Gwendolyn Thomas and husband George of Townsend, great grandchildren Douglas E. Shetzler, III, Charlotte Coryell, George W. Thomas, III, Mick Coryell, Gillian Thomas, and Gwendolyn Thomas, as well as great- great grandson Jaden Shetzler. Additionally, Ed is survived by his sister Daisey Bailey (Ron Ash) and brothers Walter (Lillian) and Ralph Heverin, and many loving nieces and nephews. Ed was supremely devoted to his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Locke Heverin, who predeceased him. He came from a large family and was also predeceased by sisters Pearl Bromer, Ruth Heverin, Sadie Hall, Betty McNatt, and brothers, Bill, Carroll, Jim, and Frank Heverin. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Broadmeadow Rehabilitation Center, especially Yvonne and the Strand Unit for their excellent care and many kindnesses shown to Ed during his last years. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Daniels and Hutchison funeral home in Middletown. Friends may visit at noon and a military burial will follow at the Veteran's Cemetery near Glasgow.
