Read More	LIFE SKETCH AND TRIBUTE OF CHARLES EDWARD LITCHFIELD Charles Edward Litchfield, of Ames, Iowa, the son of Archie Edward Litchfield and Pearl Catherine Brown Litchfield, was born at Centerville, Iowa, in Appanoose County, on February 18, 1933, and passed away on November 15, 2009. He reached the age of 76 years, 8 months and 28 days. He was united in marriage to Janis Louise McKim on February 21, 1953, at Nevada, Iowa. To this union were born a daughter and three sons. He lived most of his life in Ames, attended Ames Public Schools, and graduated from Ames High School in 1952. He was employed with the Iowa State University Grounds Shop and had worked as a Grounds man for over 40 years. He took great pride in his job and was always conscientious -- not only about being there, but in being punctual. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and took great interest in gardening and working with the soil. One of his fellow employees and good friends was quoted as saying recently "Charlie was a legend in the Iowa State Grounds Shop. He was well known for all his Charlieisms and they will be talked about and repeated for many years to come." Charles was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, and he spent many good times watching and listening to his beloved Cubs teams throughout the years. Many times I have witnessed Charlie sitting on his front steps with his radio and his faithful dog Buddy listening to the Cubs. Charles's dog Buddy was a gift given to him at his retirement celebration and was his loyal and faithful companion for almost 15 years. Charles Litchfield lived for his home and family -- his love was generous and his helping hand was always ready. His concern and interest reached beyond his immediate family, to close and more distant relatives, and friends and neighbors. He was a stranger to no one and always had a 'minute' to talk to anyone who knew him. He was not afraid to get involved in helping others. He was a very loving father to his children and was always there to lend his ear to anyone who stopped by his home for a Pepsi or cup of coffee. All of Charlie's friends and family well know that when Charlie told you something on philosophy of life, it was always a straight answer. His tell it like it is attitude may not have always been agreeable to all, but all knew it was the way he saw it! Sincerity, helpfulness, cheerfulness and a conscientious life are a part of the living memorial that Charles Litchfield leaves to the members of his family and a host of friends. He is survived by his four children: Mark Edward Litchfield and his wife Pam of Huxley, Iowa; Kenneth Allen Litchfield and his wife Sharon of Boise, Idaho; Diane Louise Litchfield of Ames; and David Lee Litchfield and his wife Donna of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister Dorothy Bowers and her husband Hubert of Berryville, Arkansas, and a brother Roger Litchfield and his wife Paula of Ames; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family of Charles Litchfield expresses its appreciation to all who have been so thoughtful and helpful, and have given such fine assistance during this time of bereavement.
