He lost his mother when a child of eight. When he was 11 years of age his father moved to a farm four miles from Colony, Kans., where he grew to manhood. Read More	The Vindicator Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa OBITUARY ~ CHARLES EDWARD McDOWELL February 21, 1872 ~ February 02, 1922 Charles Edward McDowell was born near what is now Cleveland, Cass County, Missouri, on February 21, 1872 [son of William and Maria (Hart) McDowell. He lost his mother when a child of eight. When he was 11 years of age his father moved to a farm four miles from Colony, Kans., where he grew to manhood. In 1899 he married Miss Dorothy Wolfe of Burlington, Iowa. They made their first home at Hope, Kans., but soon removed to Newton, Kans., where their infant son died. They moved to Tingley in 1902, where their children have all been born. He engaged in business as a barber when he first came here, and for the past two years added farming to his other tasks. In his youth at Colony he joined the Baptist Church, but after coming to Tingley, because there was no Baptist Church, he joined the Christian Church. He had been in failing health health for several years, but during the last two years, his efforts to carry on his labors have demanded heroic courage. He finally gave up the struggle and quietly fell asleep at 6 o'clock p. m., Thursday, February 2, being 49 years, 11 months and 11 days old. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, two daughters, Clara Mae and Erma; three sons, Milton, Warren and Lawrence; two sisters, Mrs. John E Ellis of Cleveland, Mo., and Mrs. Elmer Curnutt of Garnett, Kans., and three brothers, Allen T., of Colony, Kans., Joseph H., of Selma, Calif., and William E., of Tingley. The funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon, interment being made in the Tingley Cemetery. Only a driver between us, Parting our dear one awhile; Only a veil that divides us, Hiding the light of their smile, Only a sight and a struggle. Only a moment of pain, Then, mid the splendors of Eden, We shall behold then again. Only a moment of anguish, When at the Jordan we part; Only a silver cord broken, Hushed each throb of the heart, After the storm, 'twil be shining. After our labor repose, There we shall meet where the morning, Never, no never, will close. CARD OF THANKS.
