Read More	Charles E. Palmer, St. Helena Pioneer, Passes After Brief Illness Last rites will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Charles E. Palmer, pioneer St. Helena rancher and member of a family which has taken an active part in St. Helena affairs since the Bear Flag days. Mr. Palmer died at the age of 79, at the Sanitarium yesterday morning at 8:30. He had been taken to the Sanitarium Sunday as the result of complications arising from a leg injury received a couple of years ago in a runaway, but he failed to rally. His life had been marked by excellent good health, and Sunday was the first time he had ever been in a hospital. The funeral services will be held at the Morrison Chapel, with interment following in the St. Helena Public Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Philip and Charles Thompson, Edward Palmer, Warren Young, George DeLong and James Fidiam. The first three are grandchildren, the others husbands of grandchildren Mr. Palmer is survived by three children, Mrs. Orville Thompson. Raymond Palmer and Lowell Palmer, all of St. Helena. Raymond Palmer is St. Helena city clerk, while Lowell Palmer is city attorney and deputy district attorney of Napa county. Mr. Palmer's wife, the former Clara York, died some years ago. The following grandchildren also survive: Mrs. Phyllis Fidiam of Berkeley, Mrs. Ruth Pagendarm, Mrs. Barbara Young, Philip and Charles Thompson, Edward, Nancy, and Shirley Palmer, all of St. Helena, and Mrs. Ramona DeLong, of Sacramento. There are ten great grandchildren. A native of San Francisco, Mr. Palmer came to St. Helena as a boy. His father, the late Edward Palmer, was once cashier of a St. Helena bank. Mr. Palmer attended local schools, later worked for the Crockett sugar refinery and Mare Island Navy Yard. In 1913 he returned to St. Helena to operate the family ranch. Extremely active, he worked until a few years. ago as hard as younger men of the ranch. He was a member of Native Sons and the Presbyterian church. St. Helena Star, December 27, 1946
