Description	:	Charles E. Smith, son of William and Jess Smith, was born November 4, 1881, in Clay County, Nebraska. He departed this life at his home near Fairmont, Saturday, June 24, 1950, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 20 days. Charley, as he was known to his many friends, moved to California at the age of two with his parents, where he resided until he was 14 years of age. He returned to Fillmore county January 20, 1920. Smith, son of William and Jess Smith, was born November 4, 1881, in Clay County, Nebraska. He departed this life at his home near Fairmont, Saturday, June 24, 1950, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 20 days. Charley, as he was known to his many friends, moved to California at the age of two with his parents, where he resided until he was 14 years of age. He returned to Fillmore county January 20, 1920. He was united in marriage to Pearl May Cookess at Lushton. They resided on their farm the past 42 yeas. Six children came to bless this union, one son dying in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Pearl; five children, one daughter, Mrs. Roy Ely of Fairmont; four sons, Floyd and Wendell of Fairmont, Clarence of Dorchester and Donald of Coon Rapids, Ia. Besides Mrs. Smith and children, he leaves two brothers, George Smith of Wilder, Idaho and Delbert Smith of York; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Meek of Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Grace Gladdens of Santa Rosa, Cal., and Mrs. Eva Ransdell of Poulsbo, Cal., many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his many friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon, June 28, 1950, at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. M. W. Smitheram officiating. Oliver Moul sang with Mrs. A. C. Stewart at the organ. Pallbearers were the four sons and two grandsons of the deceased. Interment was in Fairmont Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 1950. Son of William and Jane (George) Smith. Military Veteran. Lot owner: Clarence Smith.
