Description	:	PEDESTRIAN, 80, HIT BY AUTO, DIES __________ An 80-year-old Virginia Ave resident, Charles Edward Taylor, died Sunday morning in Washington County Hospital after he was struck by an automobile near his home only a few minutes before. City police identified the driver of the car as Alverda Perkowsky, of the 300 block of Antietam dr. Read More	PEDESTRIAN, 80, HIT BY AUTO, DIES __________ An 80-year-old Virginia Ave resident, Charles Edward Taylor, died Sunday morning in Washington County Hospital after he was struck by an automobile near his home only a few minutes before. City police identified the driver of the car as Alverda Perkowsky, of the 300 block of Antietam dr. The police report states that Mrs. Perkowsky was apparently not at fault in the accident which occurred about 9:15 am. They said the street was wet and the weather hazy at the time. The auto skidded about 35 feet before it struck Mr. Taylor who was attempting to cross from the east side of the street to the west. Three witnesses told investigating officers the man came from behind parked cars on Virginia Ave, about 90 feet south of Brighten Place, and started to cross the street, apparently not seeing the oncoming vehicle. No charges were place against the Perkowsky woman. Mr. Taylor was a retired North American Cement Co foreman. He had been retired for about 12 years. He was born in Williamsport, son of William and Matilda (Wolfe) Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a member of Hagerstown Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude (Crowe) Taylor; daughter, Mrs. Evelyn C Wolford; sons, Frank T, Donald O and James W Taylor, all of Hagerstown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at Leaf Funeral Home, Halfway, the Rev K Russell Butcher officiating.
