Crowe (Joyce), two sisters; Thelma Crowe Hall (Rick) and Kay Crowe Bayne (Danny) and many nieces and nephews. Charlie is predeceased by his only son, Timothy Alan Crowe; a sister, Joyce Crowe Clark; and a special nephew, Ronald Keith Crowe. The family would like to give a special thanks to Open Arms Hospice and LaFrance Sitter Service. They worked closely with Charlie to make sure his remaining days were as pain free as possible. Debra Martin, a nurse with Open Arms and Dawn Roberts, a caregiver, were both caring and loving sources of help during this time. Charlie’s story begins on June 24, 1932 in Pickens County, where he was born to the late Albert and Elsie Davenport Crowe. He was of the Baptist faith. He attended Greenville High School. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy at Subic Bay, Philippines, enlisting when he was 17 years old. During his time in the Navy, he developed a love for the game of baseball. After being discharged from the Navy, he continued to play in the Evangeline League in New Iberia, Louisiana and the Florida-Georgia League for the Waycross Bears. In the early 1950s, the Evangeline League was considered to be one of the strongest leagues in the country. Charlie also played in Textile Leagues around the Up-State. In 2016, he was inducted into the Textile Heritage Sports Hall of Fame. After playing baseball, Charlie was employed at Saco Lowell. He was the Director of Membership on the Employees Recreation Association Executive Board. Charlie coordinated baseball, basketball and golf teams. He also helped organize Easter Egg Hunts and Christmas parties for the families of the employees at Saco Lowell. On Easter morning, Charlie would dress up as the Easter Bunny and deliver baskets to the children at Shriner’s Hospital on Pleasantburg Drive. Burial at Graceland Cemetery West
