Description	:	Charles Edwin Mann, 78, of Carlisle and formerly of Malcom, died Saturday, May 11, 2008 at his home. His funeral service was held at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Wednesday, May 14 with Rev. Michael W. Johnson officiating. Military honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2099 in Carlisle and the United States Navy followed the service. Interment was at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville was in charge of the arrangements. Charles Edwin Mann was born July 16, 1929 on a family farm near Malcom, to Earl Francis and Leone (McCarty) Mann. After living in that area a few short years, the family moved to Summerset and then on to Indianola where Charles carried papers and set pins at a bowling alley. At the age of 14 his parents divorced and he was placed in a children's home with Fern & H.G. McMaude. While there he attended East High School in Des Moines and Following school, he joined the Navy. After his four years of service, and with an honorable discharge, Charles came back to the Malcom farm I November in 1949. Charles married Phyllis Watts of the Montezuma area on June 10, 1950. To this union five children were born with four still living. Charles worked as an over-the-road driver and drove for different companies but actually retired from Yellow Freight Lines in 1991. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years and spending time with his grown children and their families. Charles had many happy moments with his six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He was truly a self-made man, and built his family two really nice homes. Charles was a perfectionist and everything he did was the best it could be. He has helped his children and many friends with projects since retirement. Charles is survived by his wife, Phyllis and his four children, six grandchildren, six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson and many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean Fayer, infant daughter, Kerry, grandson Tyler Hilsabeck and many aunts and uncles. Memorials may be made to the Carlisle Fire and Rescue Department or to Mercy Hospice. Montezuma Republican paper 6/18/2008
