Ray Hill officiating. Burial was at Lake City Cemetery. Mr. Watters died at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City, on Friday, September 18, 1987. Born July 31, 1913 at Gruver, Charles Eldon Watters was the son of Charles Webster and Mary Etta Taylor Watters. He moved with his family to Lake City, Iowa, 52 years ago, where he became a founder and owner of Watters Appliance and Hardware Stores, and a Store Development Specialist for True Value Hardware covering the state of Iowa. Mr. Watters organized United Enterprises, Inc., in the 1960's after selling the retail business to his sons. United distributed refrigeration products within Iowa and the organization serviced over 100 dealers across the state. He was married to Miriam Romona Ives on August 29, 1935 at Fairmont, Minnesota. Mrs. Watters was active in all aspects of Lake City development and progress, serving on a variety of boards including the initial board for the development and construction of Stewart Memorial Community Hospital and Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City. As a former school board member, Mr. Watters was an instigator in school reorganization. Other community organizations in which he served included the Lake City Development Commission, Kiwanis Club, Lake City Chamber of Commerce where he was a past president. During his 4 year term as Chamber of Commerce President, the Chamber promoted the building of a new post office and city mail delivery. As a member of Woodlawn Christian Church, he served as a deacon and elder and taught Sunday School. He was a former Calhoun County War Bond Chairman. Mr. Watters was well known for his interest in history, particularly the history of Lake City and Calhoun County. He was a member and officer of the Lake City Historical Society, and held membership in the Calhoun county Historical Society and State of Iowa Historical Society. He was well known to readers of the Lake City Graphic for his series of articles on the history and development of Lake City, which were a feature of the newspaper for nearly 10 years. In addition to history, Mr. Watters enjoyed photography as a hobby.
