Gerster grove, consisting of twenty acres planted to navels, lemons and seedless grapefruit, situated in Riverside avenue about one mile south of the Santa Fe track, has been sold to J. W. Brunton of Los Angeles. This was formerly owned by Charles E. Bowlsby and carries twenty shares of Citizens’ Water stock. An eleven-acre grove in Redlands was given in part payment. Four months later, on Jun. 19, 1940, Charles' wife, Lois Anne (Tolle) Bowlsby died of a heart attack in Redlands, San Bernardino county, CA. Bowlsby Taken by Death Charles Ellsworth Bowlsby, owner of extensive properties in Redlands, died late Saturday night at his 129 West Colton avenue home in Redlands. He was 76 years old and a native of Plattville, Wis. As a young man, he lived in Galena, Ill., and attended college at Keokuk, Iowa. In 1883, he moved to California, settling first at Westminster, then moving to Rialto. He retired in 1900. Survivors are his widow, Lois A. Bowlsby of Redlands; three daughters, Phebe Bowlsby of Redlands, Mrs. Ethe; Irene Youtsey of Dunsmuir, Cal., and Mrs. Sadie McNew of Cottage Grove, Oregon; three sons, Raymond of Prescott, Ariz., Charles of Junction City, Oregon, and Robert L. of Glendale; a sister, Mrs. Della Williams of McKittrick, California and a brother, Edward S. of Oakland. Funeral services will he held at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Wilson funeral chapel, Redlands, with burial to follow in Hillside cemetery.
