Mills, 78, of Route 2, Hallettsville, Texas, died Jan. 22, 1987, at the Citizen's Medical Center in Victoria, Texas. He was born July 28, 1908, in Keokuk County to Floyd and Hattie Morgan Mills. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he moved to Hallettsville nine years ago. He worked for John Morrell and Company and Vaughn Chevrolet before his retirement. He married Ola L. Freeman on Dec. 11, 1928; she died March 11, 1945. He then married Rosetta I. Morris on March 5, 1955; she died Nov. 6, 1985. He is survived by two sons, Lawrence R. of Ottumwa Route 1 and Jerry of Peyton, Colo.; a daughter, Joyce Newton of Lakewood, Calif.; three stepsons, William Morris of La Porte City, the Rev. James Morris of Burbank, Calif., and Robert P. Morris of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Betty Dodge of Hallettsville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 35 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Otho of Antioch, Calif. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shaul Cemetery, the Rev. Paul I. Miller of Trinity Church of the Nazarene officiating. Visitation will be open at Reece Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Monday.
