Description	:	Charles Emmett Graves, son of Nany Ellen McMorris and James William Graves, was born in Pleasanton, Iowa, June 21, 1877, and departed this life at the Decatur county hospital, Dec. 17, 1959, being 82 years, 5 months, and 26 days of age. He grew to manhood near Pleasanton and on Nov. 26, 1898, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Downey. He grew to manhood near Pleasanton and on Nov. 26, 1898, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Downey. To this union six children were born: Earl of Leon, James O. of Webster City, Clella Pickering of Garden Grove, Calif., Forrest of Lamoni, Ellen Dunbar of Duncombe, and Dale of Webster City. He also made a home for two stepchildren, Minnie Craig and W. D. Bennett. He and his wife were baptized into the Holden Baptist church on Jan. 25, 1914, and he held the office of a deacon for several years. The family lived and farmed near Davis City until 1929 when they moved to a farm near Lamoni. In 1932 they moved to the college farm where he remained until poor health caused him to retire from farming. He moved into Lamoni where he lived until his death. In March 1948, both he and his wife were taken into the RLDS church, to which he remained faithful until the end. C. E., as he was known, was a kind and loving husband and father. For the last two years he patiently cared for his companion who has been confined to her bed because of a broken hip. His greatest pride and joy in life was the companionship of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, two sisters, three stepchildren, and three grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing, his companion, one brother, Clyde of Oxford, Kan., six children, 42 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. Memorial services were held at the RLDS church in Lamoni Sunday, Dec. 20, at 2:30 p.m. The sermon was preached by Elder Wilber Prall, assisted by Elder Wayne Small. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
