Description	:	Charlie was born June 17, 1894, in Thomaston, Maine, son of Charles S. and Helen (Watson) Getchell. Charlie attended high school in Port Clyde, but economic conditions forced him to quit school and seek employment. He went to work at Poor's Drug Store in Belfast and became very interested in becoming a pharmacist. September 6, 1918, at the age of 24, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served at Camp Devens, Massachusetts. He was honorably discharged January 21, 1919. Read More	Charlie was born June 17, 1894, in Thomaston, Maine, son of Charles S. and Helen (Watson) Getchell. Charlie attended high school in Port Clyde, but economic conditions forced him to quit school and seek employment. He went to work at Poor's Drug Store in Belfast and became very interested in becoming a pharmacist. September 6, 1918, at the age of 24, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served at Camp Devens, Massachusetts. He was honorably discharged January 21, 1919. Charlie then returned to Belfast, graduated from Belfast High School, and went on to study to become a pharmacist. On August 31, 1920, Charlie took Cora Alma Bradstreet as his bride. Later, with Cora's help, Charlie bought W.O. Poor & Son Drug Company, in Belfast, and became a very well respected and prosperous businessman. He was a member of the National Association of Retail Druggists, the Maine Pharmaceutical Association, the Frank B. Haseltine Post American Legion, and the Belfast Methodist Church. Charlie's parents and grandparents are buried in Rockland, Maine. December 1, 1964 Charlie died. Besides his widow Cora (Bradstreet) Getchell, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Helen Benner of Waldoboro, Mrs. Grace Ridley of Orland [115538832], as well as several nieces and nephews.
