Born 31 March 1920 in Keyser, he was the son of the late Samuel R. Tysinger and Bertha (Oates) Tysinger. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Maxine Randalls, Edrest Blackburn and Virginia Hamer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Tysinger retired from Westvaco Corporation with 39 years of service and had worked for the Celanese Corporation for a short time. He served in the U. S. Army and was a guard at the Nuremburg Trials for the Nazi war criminals. He was a graduate of Keyser High School, Class of 1938 and earned his A. A. Degree from Potomac State College in 1940. He decided at this time to fulfill his dream to become a professional baseball player and enlisted the help of Joseph Carbasio to obtain a tryout. Successful in making the Cordele, Georgia Reds team of the Cincinnati Reds organization in 1940 to 1941, along with his close friend, the late Forrest ‘Gabby' High. Mr. Tysinger was invited back to the class ‘AA' organization for next year, but his dream was cut short when he received his ‘greeting letter' from the War Department in 1941. Mr. Tysinger played for the 3rd Army baseball team that won the Armed Forces championship in 1945-46. A member of the old Bi-State and current Pen-Mar baseball leagues both as player and manager. He managed and played for the Westvaco team to the Bi-State Championship in 1949. In 1995 he was a Keyser High School Hall of Fame inductee. Mr. Tysinger was a manager in the Keyser Little League for the old National Bank Braves and assisted the Keyser Hat Stove. His love for the children that played for him did not diminish nor did his care and devotion for the children of Keyser. His selflessness toward children of Keyser is of great pride to his family. His love was watching his grandson play at any level and enjoyed many years teaching him the game he loved so much. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gertrude Rita (Jackson) Tysinger; one son, Mark E. Tysinger and wife Pamela and the lights of his life granddaughter, Lauren M. Tysinger; grandson, Ian M. Tysinger and great-grandson, Gavin Mitchell Root, all of Keyser. Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday 7 April 2004 at 1 p.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., officiating. At Mr. Tysinger's request, he will then be cremated and private inurnment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Westernport, Md.
