Mr. Raine passed away at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake on Friday, December 29, 2000. Music was by accompanist Marilyn Hundling and by a duet comprised of Shelley Hundling and Arlan Willems. Interment was made in Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Charles Fredrick Raine was born June 20, 1907, in Darlington, England, the son of John and Hannah Marshall Raine. In 1910, the family came over from England to Iowa for a short time, and then settled on a farm in Minot, N.Dak. When he was a young man, Mr. Raine's family moved to Denison where he helped on his father's farm. During World War II, he operated a DX station in Denison. On June 18, 1945, he married Veronica J. Collins at Hiawatha, Kan. They first made their home in Denison and then, eventually moved to Lake View. On October 12, 1946, Mr. Raine and his brothers and brother-in-law, Ray Grill, opened the Lake View Motor Company. In later years, the company was owned by Charles and Veronica Raine and Ray and Hazel Grill. Mr. Raine retired December 31, 1971. He then spent several winters in Mesa. Ariz. He had received the Quality Dealer Award for many years before his retirement. He was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church and of the Lake View Commercial Club, from which he was an active ticket seller for the Summer Carnival. He was a past member of the Lake View City Council. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, coffee time and snowbirding in Mesa. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Jeanne Raine of Humboldt; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Randy Lanning of South Sioux City, Neb.; 4 grandchildren: Janelle (Mrs. Jason) Onstot of Algonquin, Ill., Matt Raine of Miami Lakes, Fla., and Julie and Greg Lanning of South Sioux City; a special friend, Katie Horst of Lake View; and a brother-in-law, Ray Grill of Canon City, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veronica in 1990; and 9 sisters and brothers: John, Jane, Bert, Roy, Thomas, Dorothy, Joe, Ada and Hazel.
