Mr. Foreman was a native of North Carolina, and moved to Ohio when quite young coming to this county in 1839. He was a shrewd, enterprising man, and though possessed of little capital, at the start, soon succeeded in acquiring a considerable amount of property, which he managed with unusual judgement. For many years he was one of the best known residents of the southern part of the county, and exerted a decided influence in shaping and controlling public affairs. In 1830 he was married to Miss Margaret Steele, who survives him. Four children were born to them, but all died in childhood. Deceased was taked sick in the fall of 1879, since which time, with a few slight intermissions, he has been confined to his bed, and his demise expected at an early day. The funeral, which was largely attended, occurred yesterday, and the remains were deposited in the Rochester Cemetery. FOREMAN-At his residence in Rochester township, Cedar county, Iowa, at twelve o'clock last Saturday night, April 4th, 1885, Mr. Charles Foreman, in the eighty-sixth year of his age. Mr. Charles Foreman was born in Rowan county, North Carolina, February 3rd, 1800. When but a child he removed with his parents to Greene County, Ohio, where he lived many years, and where, on the 12th of April, 1830, he was married to Margaret Steele. In 1839 Mr. Foreman came to Iowa and Cedar County, where he has lived continuously ever since, being thus among the oldest of her living old settlers. A very long, an industrious and useful life was concluded when Mr. Foreman died. A man who came in with the century--who was a voter when James Monroe was inaugurated President of the United States, before the time of the younger Adams, Jackson or Van Buren--and who has been a citizen of Iowa from the very beginning of its existence as a territory--such a man has seen, known, and lived through changes too great to be readily appreciated, and vicissitudes too many and varied fro recapitulation. And when such a man, in the fullness of years and after an upright and honored life, is seen no more among us, the Past seems to move still further away, and the days to be more and more rapidly taken from the Future by the Present, and added to those that are gone. Deceased had been a great sufferer for six years preceding his death, much of the time being confined to the house and room. But all was borne with patience and fortitude. After almost fifty-five years of married life, his widow is left alone in the world--the four children which were born to her having all died in childhood. The funeral was held on Tuesday, Rev. C.F. Bowers officiating, and was quite largely attended, including among those present a number of the old settlers. Interment took place at the Rochester Cemetery.
