Read More	Obituary from Choctaw Nation Biskinik: Charlie Frank Ogletree, 84, passed away February 29, 2004, in St. Helena, California. He was born February 2, 1920, in Indianola, Oklahoma, to Katie Gertrude Nale and Charlie Frank Ogletree. Charlie came to the Napa Valley in the late 1930s. During those first years in the valley, Charlie Frank worked at various ranches and also Oakville Grocery Store. Due to an early injury in his teens, he was not able to enlist in the military. He contributed to the war effort by working as a welder at Mare Island Shipyard. This is where he learned the welding and steel trade and met his sweetheart and wife of 56 years, LaVerne. After leaving Mare Island, Charlie Frank and LaVerne decided to go into their own business. They first opened Ogletree's Machine Shop. Then they decided to build low-income apartments after seeing the need for housing for the elderly on a fixed income. His sons are still operating both of these businesses today. His contributions to the community are many and include a four-year term on the city council, driving an ambulance for Morrison Funeral Home, the Food Pantry and Brown Bag program, volunteer police reserves and a 54-year dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge. He was always interested and supportive of organizations that would better the lives of other Native Americans, specifically Native American children. Charlie Frank enjoyed big game hunting and trophy fishing. He enjoyed all outdoor activities and vacations were most often spent camping. He owned a ranch in Oroville and loved going up there whenever time allowed. In Oroville, he enjoyed raising his own vegetables and stock for meat. He built his home in St. Helena so family and friends would surround him, which was the most important thing in Charlie Frank's life. When at home there he always had a small vegetable garden and all envied his tomatoes. Not always having as intense a commitment to raising dozens of cats and small pets, including squirrels and birds, as his wife, LaVerne, in her memory Charlie Frank continued to nurture and care for these critters after his wife's passing two years prior to his own. This provided him comfort and company during his last years. Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy, and her husband, Mike, of Oroville; his sons, Ron, and wife, Sally; Bob and wife, Karen, Bill and Tod, all of St. Helena; two sisters, Meda and her husband, Cy Maxwell, of Placerville and Tilla Neller of St. Helena; brother, Larry McKivergan and wife, Beverly, of Antioch; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins in Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia.
