Mr. Boyer of Wichta conducting the service. The G.A.R. of which he was a member, had charge of the services at the cemetery. Read More	Osage County Chronicle 20 Mar. 1919: CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERS LAST CALL Charles Franklin Himes, a Civil war veteran and for many years resident in or near Burlingame, died on Friday of last week and was buried Sunday afternoon from the Church of Christ, Rev. Mr. Boyer of Wichta conducting the service. The G.A.R. of which he was a member, had charge of the services at the cemetery. The deceased was a native of Illinois, born in November 1841, and came here some years after the close of the war. He enlisted shortly after hostilities began as a private in Co. B, 37th Illinois infantry, and after serving 4 years and nine months was mustered out as a corporal. For many years he has been very much stooped because of injuries received to his hips when as one of several infantrymen who volunteered to man a piece of artillery in battle, he was run over by a caisson. Mr. Himes has been a widower for many years and he and an unmarried daughter, Miss Hattie, have been keeping house. Another daughter, Mrs. Johnson [Joslin] of Hutchinson, has been here during his last illness and was present at the obsequies. The deceased was of a quiet nature, a good citizen, and well known to most old residents. --------------------------------------------------- He was the son of Ezra and Maria Wright Himes and he had eight siblings: Harriet Himes Frisbie, William Henry Himes, Daniel Himes, Lyman Wright Himes, Alva A. Himes, Alma Himes Lemoine, N. Himes, and Lydia Himes Garner.
