Read More	Garden County News (Oshkosh, Nebraska), Nov. 17, 1949, Page 1 One of the true pioneer residents of Garden county passed away Tuesday of last week [November 8, 1949] when Charles Fremont Roberts, 82, of Lewellen, passed away in the hospital in that city. Mr. Roberts had been a resident of Garden county for 63 years, coming here with his wife in 1886. He lived in both the Oshkosh and Lewellen communities but Lewellen was his home most of the time. He was born July 27, 1867 in Lee county, Illinois, the son of Henry and Livera Holdren Roberts but came with his parents to Missouri in 1868 and lived there for 13 years. In 1884 he moved to Butler County, Nebraska, and since that time he has called Nebraska his home. In 1886 he came to Western Nebraska and has resided in this area since that time. At the time of his death he was 82 years three months and 12 days old. He was united in marriage in 1893 with Henrietta Marquis and 2 sons were born to this union. Mrs. Roberts preceded him in death, having passed away almost a year and a half ago. He is survived by his two sons, Guy and Basil, both of Lewellen; 14 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; and a host of friends. One grandson, Lt. Eugene Roberts of the Army Air Force was killed in the service of his country in December of 1943. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Lewellen Saturday afternoon and interment was made in the Ash Hollow cemetery. Rev. Etheredge was in charge of the service with Wright funeral home handling the final rites. His five grandsons and the husband of a granddaughter were pallbearers. Those from out of town who were present for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bishop and Karen, Marge Roberts, Mrs. Etta Schooley, Mrs. Irene Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schooley, all of Denver; Carol, Barbara and Charles Roberts, all of Lincoln; and Ray Roberts and Leonard Edsall, both of Watonga, Oklahoma.
