Sands was born in Lyndon, Whiteside county, Ill., Nov. 10, 1845 and died at Lake City, Iowa, Sept. 5, 1901, age 55 years, 9 months and 17 days. At the age of 23 he was married to Sarah A. Harding Sept. 8, 1868. He removed with his family to Carroll county, Iowa in 1871 and engaged in farming, which occupation he followed until about two years ago when he began business in Glidden, Iowa. He moved to Lake city, Iowa in March 1900 and has since made his home here. To this union were born seven children five girls and two boys, five of who survive the father. Myrtie an infant and Frankie nine years of age twin brother to Fannie have passed on before. About five years ago Mr. Sands made a public profession of his faith to Christ which faith he kept till the last. Mr. Sands was an industrious man and possessed many sterling qualities. In his business course he established a successful business and won many friends. On August 10th Mr. Sands met with an accident and was severely injured but was believed to be nicely on the way to recovery passing quite and easy day Wednesday but at 2 o'clock Thursday morning was suddenly taken worse and died at 3 a.m. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Sept. 6, at the home by F. H. Lemon of the Christian church assisted by pastors McArthur and Keith. The entire family and his brother Marcus A. Sands from Atlantic accompanied by his wife were present. The singers were F. W. Arney, D. H. Parker, Mrs. C. S. Hopkins and Mrs. Belle Smith. The interment was made at Scranton, Iowa.
