Sanford, aged 31 years and 8 months. Thus ended prematurely in pain and anguish a career of usefulness and much promise. Less than a year ago, we believe, Charley Sanford was a fine specimen of manly vigor. Subsequently a painful ailment in the groin appeared. It was pronounced cancerous and removed. Failing in health and spirit, the ablest physicians in the country were baffled by his symptoms. It was finally decided, however, that a cancerous afflicition of the liver was the cause of the later trouble. Deceased was born in New Haven, Connecticut. At an early age he came to Iowa, and lived for many years at Avoca. Since early manhood he has been engaged chiefly in real estate and banking operation, wherein he manifested fine ability and established himself strongly in public favor. About seven years ago he married Miss Hattie Arnold, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Arnold, of Arnolds Park. The widow and two children are chief mourners. Charley sanford was a man of more than ordinary ability and character. In business he was a success and in social circles he was exceedingly popular. To his family he was tenderly attached, and walk of the young widow will be more lonely and her burdens the heavier, and her heart the sorer because of his devotion. The family have the sympathy of all in their distress. Mr. Sanford had expressed a desire for burial in the beautiful Okoboji Cemetery. Accordingly the body was brought here last Sunday morning and laid to rest near the only home the widow ever knew until she was married. A number of neighbors, including a considerable party from Spirit Lake, joined the sorrowing funeral train. *The Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, Dickinson County, Iowa, August 14, 1891. ----------
