DIED. GEDLEMAN--At his late home near York Prairie, Saturday, Oct. 7, 1899, Chas. Gedelman, aged about 60 years. After delivering a load of corn at Bennett last Thursday, Chas. Geadelmann, of Fairfield township, started for home about four o'clock, but only got as far as the bridge near the old Wm. Lichtenwalter farm, where an accident occurred and he was found a short time afterward by his neighbor, Hans Schweitzer, lying face downward in the road. The injured man was alive and on being picked up recognized Mr. S. and asked to be taken to his home, which was done, and Dr. Snoke, of Bennett, summoned. One rib was found to be fractured, but there were no external injuries, and until internal inflammation set in there was nothing to indicate that he was seriously hurt. A doctor from New Liberty was called in consultation and it was decided that an operation ought to be performed, but the patient objected to having it done that night and it was finally abandoned altogether. He grew worse rapidly and at three o'clock Saturday morning he passed away. Nothing is known of how the accident occurred, no one having witnessed it, but as the team had backed the wagon off a steep embankment into a deep ditch, it is likely that the driver was thrown from the seat on top of the high box to the ground below. The horses were standing still when found and the only thing broken about the wagon was the reach. The funeral was conducted from the late residence on Monday, Rev. John Hermann preaching the sermon, and the interment being made at the Clarence cemetery. Deceased, who was 50 years of age was well to do financially and leave his wife and children well provided for.
