Description	:	Charles H. Howard, Sr., 73, of Prairie Home, MO died peacefully at his home on Monday, August 13, 2012. Charles was born May 16, 1939 in Cooper County, MO to Virgil M. and Elma M. (Swearingen) Howard. He accepted Christ at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Prairie Home. On June 8, 1963 he married Janet K. Cline Howard. He was a 1957 graduate of Prairie Home High School. He joined the Army right after high school. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1964. Charles was born May 16, 1939 in Cooper County, MO to Virgil M. and Elma M. (Swearingen) Howard. He accepted Christ at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Prairie Home. On June 8, 1963 he married Janet K. Cline Howard. He was a 1957 graduate of Prairie Home High School. He joined the Army right after high school. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1964. Charles worked for FMC Trucking until his retirement in 2006. He raised two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prairie Home. He is survived by his wife Janet of Prairie Home; two sons, Charles Howard, Jr. of New Orleans, LA and Jim (Stacy) Howard of Slater, MO; the joys of his life, grandchildren Chelsea Howard and James Howard, Jr. of Houston, MO; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Creekmur of Boonville, MO; several sister and brother-in-laws; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Howard Wehmeyer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO. Burial with full military honors will be in California City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Dumas, assisted by Rev. Myron Couch. Visitation will also be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.
