Although it was known his condition was serious, his naturally optimistic spirit was unbroken and hopes were high for his recovery. His death this morning came as a distinct shock. Mr. Brewerton was one of the Brewerton Brothers, operators of a chain of theatres in Raymond, Magrath, Cardston, Waterton National Park and Calgary. He was manager of the Magrath house and also was employed in the Broadway Store, owned and operated by the Brewertons at Raymond. In his younger days Mr. Brewerton was a baseball star. He was born in Utah and came to Canada with his parents soon after the turn of the century, settling in the then new and booming town of Raymond. His genial personality and friendliness made him a general favorite. He filled a mission to England for the L.D.S. church. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Phyllis Young before her marriage, daughter of former bishop Brigham S. Young of Lethbridge; and the following children: Harding, Linden, Denton (Bud) on a mission in South America; and Joy, a daughter. Also surviving are his father, Charles Brewerton, brothers, Lee and George, Raymond; Gordon of Calgary; Roy of San Francisco; and a sister, Mrs. Spence Young, Salt Lake. Funeral arrangements are not completed. [Lethbridge Herald, 28 Mar 1941] MANY AT FUNERAL OF BUSINESS MAN - Late Harding Brewerton Laid to Rest - Made Host of Friends. RAYMOND, April 2 - It has been said "It is good to possess riches, but it is far better to have many friends." Harding Brewerton, over whose remains funeral services were held in the first ward L.D.S. chapel here yesterday, had many friends. He possessed that rare quality of making friends wherever he went, and it is doubtful he had a single enemy. The estimated attendance in excess of 500 and the many beautiful floral offerings also bespoke the friendship and popularity of one of Raymond's most popular business men. Funeral services were in charge of Elder Golden Snow of the ward bishopric, Elders T.O. King and Heber F. Allen in that order, were speakers. Elder King referred to his long friendship with the entire Brewerton family, with whom he first became acquainted 36 years ago. "No family in our midst were more congenial, and perhaps it can also be said that no one in our community was loved and respected more by his fellowmen than Harding Brewerton," he said. Perhaps no finer tribute could be paid anyone than he was loved by all children who knew him, as referred to by the speaker. Such a tribute was inspiration for Mr. King to choose as his text "Love one another" on which he preached a brief but inspirational sermon. Elder Heber F. Allen of the stake presidency said he considered it an honor to be chosen by the family to speak at the services. Elder Allen too, referred to the life of deceased as an exemplification of love and friendship to all. Elder Allen preached briefly on life and death and the place where the spirit of man dwells in the hereafter. The choir provided appropriate music for the services under the direction of Choirmaster Ira McBride. Two male quarettes were sung under the direction of Frank R. Taylor. Invocation was offered by Elder O.H. Snow and benediction pronounced by Bishop L.L. Palmer. Interment was at the Raymond cemetery with Christensen Bros. of Lethbridge in charge of arrangements.
