Burial in the Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom, Iowa. Charles Harold Swindal was the youngest child of William Robert and Mary Ann Swindell Swindal. His early life was spent in Brooklyn with his parents. He attended the Brooklyn public schools and graduated from Brooklyn High school with the class of 1921. Following graduation he attended the University of Iowa. On Sept. 28, 1923 he was married to Retta Norris. To this union a daughter, Phyllis Jane, was born. Following his marriage he continued to live in Iowa City until 1935 when because of ill health it was necessary for him to take his family to Phoenix, Arizona, where he has since made his home. For several years he had known of a condition that made death a thing to be expected for him at any time, and yet this knowledge robbed him of none of the zest of living. In spite of a great deal of pain which his condition caused him he was cheerful and patient in his suffering. His going away has brought sadness to his immediate family and to a great host of friends who prized his friendship highly. He was a member of the Methodist church, having joined when a senior in high school, a member of Iowa City Lodge #4 of AF & AM, a member of the Jessamine Chapter #135 of the Order of Eastern Star of Iowa City and a member of Iowa City Lodge #44 of IOOF.
