Read More	Unknown Newspaper GROUND TO A PULP IN CORN SHELLER – Horrible Accident Takes place in Warren County Upon the Farm of Frank Nutting - Indianola, IA. Jan. 5. Yesterday at 10 o'clock a.m., at the farm of Frank Nutting, in Otter township of this county occurred a distressing accident, when Charles Coffman received injuries while feeding a corn shredder which resulted in death shortly afterward. Mr. Coffman, who was a hired hand of Frank Nutting was feeding the shredder, and, it is thought, climbed up on the chute to fix something, when his foot slipped, or he attempted to push some stalks into the shredder with his foot. He was caught by the left foot and the entire leg was mangled by the shredder. His screams are said to have been the most piercing and heartrending ever heard. The men working about the machine were unable to rescue him from his fatal mishap. The machine was stopped, but by that time the entire leg had been ground into pulp and even his body badly lacerated. He became unconscious and death followed in a short time. He was a man about 32 years of age and leaves a wife and four small children. About a year ago his father, A. J. Coffman, a veteran of the civil war, and a member of the Thirty-fourth Iowa Infantry, fell from a load of hay, striking his shoulders and breaking his back, from which he died. The second accident in this particular family, occurring so soon after the death of his father, casts a gloom over the neighborhood in which they lived, as the family was well liked by a large circle of friends. Note: Headstone records date of death as January 04, 1909 and obituary states date of death as January 05, 1909.
