Born April 23, 1938, in Defiance, he was the son of Charles H. and Wilma (Durham) Groll Sr. On Jan. 7, 1959, he married Shirley Slusser, who survives. Groll Jr., 68, of Defiance died Tuesday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. Born April 23, 1938, in Defiance, he was the son of Charles H. and Wilma (Durham) Groll Sr. On Jan. 7, 1959, he married Shirley Slusser, who survives. He served in the Navy from 1956-1960 and was a millwright for General Motors, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, and a life member of the Defiance V.F.W. Post #3360. He was also a member of Defiance AMVETS #1991, Defiance Moose Lodge #2094 and UAW Local 211. He is also survived by two daughters, Beth (Bruce) Bowers of Bryan and Connie Groll of Defiance; two brothers, Karl and Paul, both of Napoleon; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery; two brothers, Louie Parsons and William Kline; six sisters, Wilma Fitch, Phyllis Egler, Lovella Parsons, Ida Kline, Margaret Kline and Gladys Becker; and a grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, 2-8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, is handling the arrangements.
