Charles Henry Andrew was born in Shrewsbury, England, June 6, 1900, coming to Canada with his parents in 1905 and settling in the Gilby district. He attended the Andrew School, named after his father William Andrew, taking up farming for himself in 1921. He married Evelyn Hazel Malcolm of the Lockhart district June 22, 1932. In 1972 Charles and Hazel celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in the Gilby Community Hall, which he had helped build in 1921. Mr. Andrew was also one of the first members of the Alberta Wheat Pool, joining in 1921, a member of the UFA Co-operative, the Fish and Game Association and the Senior Citizens in Eckville, as well as many other community affairs. He took pride in driving and caring for his horses while on the farm. The couple retired from farming in 1971, selling the farm to their son and moving to Eckville. Mr. Andrew was predeceased by his first wife in 1929, a sister Ethel Garries in 1929, his father in 1949, and his mother in 1964. He is survived by his wife Hazel, two sons, William Charles, Eckville, and Albert Arthur, Swift Current, Sask.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Brown, Red Deer, and Mrs. Harold (Irene) Leach, Eckville; five grandsons and three granddaughters; three brothers, Frank of Red Deer and Pryce and Roy of Eckville; three sisters, Mrs. Albert (Ciss) Bradley, Calgary, Mrs. Lester (Gladys) Saunders, Ponoka, and Mrs. Les (Edythe) Uhl, Rimbey. Rev. John Yoos of Sylvan Lake conducted the funeral services from the Gilby Community Hall. Burial followed in the Bentley cemetery.
