Funeral services Thursday Afternoon Conducted by Charles A Shook Charles Henry Branstitre was born on March 17, 1888, on his father's homestead two miles north of Edgar Nebr., and departed this life on August 29, 1932 at a hospital in Rochester, Minn., following an operation for brain tumor at the age of 44 years, 5 months and 12 days. On January 1, 1910, he was married to Dorotha Northrup at Edgar, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Doyt, Clair and Jake of Burlington, Colo. Besides his children, he leaves his wife, one brother, John, one sister, Mrs Faye Hayden and his stepmother, Mrs Rosina Branstitre, all of Edgar to mourn his loss. His parents, Jacob and Chloe Branstitre, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr Branstitre had lived in Nuckolls county (sic) near Edgar for 42 years on the homestead which he farmed for 18 years. He had managed the Farmers Union elevator at Edgar several years prior to moving to Burlington, Colo., on Jan 1, 1931, where he and his family resided and where he owned and operated a grain elevator. The entire community joins in expressing their sympathy to the bereaved ones in their sad hour Funeral services were held at the John Branstitre home this (Thursday) afternoon and at the Christian church at 1:30 with Charles A Shook of Miller, Nebr., in charge. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery. =============================================== The Edgar Sun Fri, Sep 16, 1932 - pg 1 In Memory A feeling of genuine sorrow was prevalent in Burlington Tuesday morning when word of the death of C. H. Branstitre was received. For several months Mr Branstitre had not been in good health. He had been taken to a Denver hospital in a serious condition several weeks ago and again last week his condition became such that he went to Denver where a thorough examination was made and his ailment diagnosed as tumor on the brain and it was recommended that he go to the Mayo hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. Accompanied by his son, Doyt, he left for Rochester, arriving there Friday morning. Monday he underwent an operation and word received here that afternoon was not encouraging. Tuesday morning the sad news of his passing came to the family. The Branstitre family came to Burlington about the first of January in 1931 from Edgar, Nebraska, after Mr Branstitre had purchased an elevator and grain business here. Although a resident here less then two years we know of no one who more quickly won the absolute confidence and esteem of everyone than did C. H. Branstitre. Among his closest friends and daily companions was a group of about twelve boys, including three of his own, all about high school age. "Charlie", as he was familiarly known to them, was one of the bunch in the games which were played almost daily near his elevator. Always, at work or play, Mr Branstitre was an advocate of clean living and clean sports and his influence upon these boys and in fact upon the entire community could be only for the best. In the home his attitude of sacrifice was almost divine assuming every care and responsibility of both wife and children to the extent that his departure never will be replaced by human aid. However with the courage and cheerfulness with which he had to the end, sparing his loved ones all knowledge of his illness, may we go on in life preparing for our eternal home so we may be with him.
