The Rev. Robert Lorenz of Pleasant Valley Lutheran church will be in charge, and burial will be in the Pleasant Valley cemetery. Mr. Watkins was born December 10, 1875, in Bettendorf, a son of the late Thomas and Hannah Watkins, and attended rural schools. His marriage to Louisa Schutter took place December 11, 1901, in Pleasant Valley. They engaged in farming until retiring in 1942. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1951. Mr. Watkins was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau and was of Lutheran faith. Among the survivors are his wife; two sons, Ralph and Clarence Watkins, both of Pleasant Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Died, Pleasant Valley and Mrs. Grace Cain, Glenn Ellyn, Illinois; two brothers, Thomas of Pleasant Valley and William Watkins, Princeton; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Blackman, Davenport, and 12 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Rachel Dodds, died in January, 1947. Excerpt from the book "Our Heritage. History of Scott County" located at the Davenport and Bettendorf Public Libraries. "Charles Henry Watkins was born December 10,1875, in Gilbert Town (now Bettendorf) in a house on the site of the present McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home. On December 11, 1901, he married Louisa Cathryn Schutter, daughter of William and Rachel Winrow Schutter, in Pleasant Valley township. A lifetime farmer, he died February 23, 1953. After marriage, Charles and Louisa farmed in LeClaire Township where Ralph Schutter was born November 16, 1902, and died August 29, 1982. Clarence Thomas was born July 12, 1904, on a farm in Lincoln Township near Mount Joy, and died June 9, 1971. In 1906 they moved to a farm at Middle and Forest Grove roads, Pleasant Valley township, where three daughters were born. Rachel Evelyn (Dodds) was born October 12,1906, and died January 9, 1947. Grace Lucille (Cain) was born September 23, 1908, and Mildred Hannah (Dies) was born September 19,1910. The 160-acre farm was located in three townships, Pleasant Valley, Lincoln, and LeClaire.
