Jeff Monday officiating. Mr. O'Brien was born July 30, 1920, in Orange, NJ, the son of Herbert Rogers and Agnes (Montanya) O'Brien. Jeff Monday officiating. Mr. O'Brien was born July 30, 1920, in Orange, NJ, the son of Herbert Rogers and Agnes (Montanya) O'Brien. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a 1st Lieutenant. He did his post graduate work at Cumberland Law School and was a trial lawyer before serving 17 years as elected Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals judge. He served seven years on the Tennessee Supreme Court and six years in the Tennessee General Assembly. He was an active member of the American Legion for 50 years and an active member of Lake Tansi Community Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna Belle (Clement) O'Brien of Crossville; daughters, Diane Solomon of Memphis and Dr. Heather O'Brien Hahn of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Terry Parker of Memphis, David Solomon of Collierville, Tommy Solomon of Collierville, Micah Hahn of Lenoir City, Avi Hahn of Lenoir City and Mara Hahn of Lenoir City; and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Caroline Parker of Memphis and Charles Jackson Solomon of Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve O'Brien; sister, Thelda Orvidson; and brother, Francis Edward O'Brien. Pallbearers were his grandsons, David and Tommy Solomon; nephews, Congressman Bob Clement, Judge Frank Clement, B.Y. Peery, Don Peery, Robert Peery and Senator Jim Kyle. Honorary pallbearers were Supreme Court and Tennessee Court of Appeals members who served with Mr. O'Brien, the Crossville Unit of the American Legion, David Solomon, Dr. Jan Hahn and Dr. Bob Mitchell.∼Funeral services for retired chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court Charles Herbert O'Brien, age 86, of Lake Tansi Village, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, at Cumberland Medical Center, will be held at Tansi Community Church at 2067 Cravens Dr. Monday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 21, from 3-5 p.m. in the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home at 76 E. Adams St. in Crossville. Known affectionately in the community as "Judge O'Brien," Charles O'Brien was the husband of 40 years of retired state Sen. Anna Belle Clement O'Brien.
