Later on, he united with... Read More	Obituary- Charles Homer Royce was born in Pennsylvania, April 23, 1860, and passed away in this city Dec. 19, 1931. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Mary Gaumer and to this union were born 7 children, two of whom preceded their father to the Great Beyond. The surviving children are as follows: John A. Royce, Mae Coons, and Jas. A. Royce of Des Moines; Laura Jeffrey of Long Beach, CAl.; and Eva Keller of this city. At the age of 15, he was converted and united with the Baptist Church. Later on, he united with the Church of Christ at Murray, Iowa. In this faith he lived and died. He became a member of I. O. O. F. more than 40 years ago in Murray, Iowa, having filled the office of Noble Grand of that chapter, at the time of his decease, he was a past Grand of Highland Park Lodge No. 612 and also a member of Mayflower Rebekah Lodge. Besides his sorrowing companion and children, he leaves 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of friends and acquaintances, who loved and respected this good man. Mr. Royce was an excellent neighbor and a man among men. He was always kind and considerate to all who were in need. He has lived a good life and his work remains. Funeral was from Lilly's Funeral home last Monday at 10 a.m. Services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline, pastor of the Euclid Avenue Methodist Church. The I. O. O. F. had charge of the closing service. Interment in the Murray Cemetery. ----------------------------------------- He was the grandson of Orison/Sylvia Holcomb Royce and Amos/Anna Adams Himes and the great grandson of Lemuel/Anna Garfield Royse, Sterling/Betsey Stone Holcomb, Amos/Thankful Andrews Himes, and Elijah/Ruth Rich Adams. He was a son of Andrew and Martha Himes Royce, who moved from Pennsylvania to Iowa sometime during the 1860's. He had eight brothers and sisters: Cynthia Amelia, who died when she was young; Dorvil Arthur, who remained in Clarke Co., IA, after Martha died there, lived a pretty long life there, married twice and had two children; Florence Emma Scott, who died at 23 years and had two sons. Florence is buried in the same plot as her mother, son, and daughter-in-law; James Mallory, who lived in Saunders Co., NE and Laramie Co., WY and had five children; Lydia Alice, who died as a baby; Laura Anne Bassett; Lem Anson, who moved to Kansas and had one daughter; and Frank Milton, who lived in Stark Co., IL, Clarke Co., IA, Woodard Co., OK, and San Diego, CA. He had seven children and was married twice.
