Campbell, an old and highly respected resident of Seward, passed away at his home Sunday evening after a short illness at the age of eighty-four years. "Daddy", as he was affectionately called by his many friends, had not been feeling in the best of health for several months but it was not until two weeks ago that his ailment proved serious with the end coming at about 10 o'clock on the above evening. He was born September 4, 1845, at Cleveland, Ohio and departed this life November 3, 1929 at the age of eight-four years, one month and twenty nine days. When about eight years of age he removed with his widowed mother and his sister to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was married at Mt. Pleasant, October 22, 1872, to Emma R. Strawn who survives him. To this union were born eight children, two of which, Frank and Edith, died in infancy. On April 3, 1884, Mr. Campbell brought his family to Seward where for a number of years he engaged in the manufacture of brooms from which business he retired several years ago. For a number of years Mr. Campbell was associated with the business interest of Seward and was one of the oldest members affiliated with the Masonic fraternity having been a Mason for over fifty-seven years, and at the time of his death belonged to Oliver Lodge No. 38, A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife and six children: George B. Campbell, Lincoln; Mrs. Mary Weitzel, Omaha; Mrs. M.F. Scheer, Mrs. Fayette Wood, Mrs. R.R. Ramsay and Miss Florence Campbell, all of Seward. The funeral services were held from the home at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Leavett of Lincoln, a former pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Members of the Seward Masonic fraternity had charge of the services at the grave. Burial was made in the Seward Cemetery.
