A resident of Hutchinson for seven years, moving from Hoisington, he was a retired brakeman and conductor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and bookkeeper for Verna's, Hoisington. Read More	C.H. "Howard" Carmichael, 91, died Feb. 17, 2007, at Pleasant View Retirement Home, Inman. He was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Great Bend, the son of Hugh and Effie Ward Carmichael. A resident of Hutchinson for seven years, moving from Hoisington, he was a retired brakeman and conductor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and bookkeeper for Verna's, Hoisington. He belonged to the Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, Hutchinson and formerly the Vine United Methodist Church, Hoisington; Masonic Lodge No. 331 AF&AM, Hoisington; Wichita Consistory; Isis Shrine Temple, Salina; Reno County Shrine Club; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428; the American Legion Post No. 286, both of Hoisington; and the Elks Lodge, Great Bend. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Normandy invasion. On April 3, 1936, he married Verna M. Carroll in Hoisington. She survives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Georgia McGonigle and husband, Jerry, Hutchinson; a sister, Betty Roepe, Hugoton; a granddaughter, Kim McGonigle, Hutchinson; and two great-grandchildren, Derek Beck and Jessica Beck, both of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by a son, Jon Carmichael; three brothers, Kenneth, Rex and Glenn Carmichael; and a sister, Dorothy Merten. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hoisington Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428 and the American Legion Post No. 286 presiding. Memorials may be sent to the Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
