Description	:	Coon Rapids Enterprise October 8, 1948 Funeral services for Charles Irvin Thomas were held at 2:30 p.m. at the Coder funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Alexander, pastor of the First Methodist Church in charge. Mrs. Delbert Ford sang "Ivory Palaces" and "I Need Thee Every Hour." Mrs. Roswell Jordan played the accompaniment. Grandsons served as casket bearers they were D. E. Hathaway, Lincoln Thomas, La Verne Stewart, Charles Neal, Warren Miller and Charles McCamley. Interment was in the family lot in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. The life sketch as read at the service was as follows: Charles Irvin Thomas, was born on October 7, 1858 at Rock Island, Illinois, and passed away after a week's illness due to a stroke at the home of his daughter Mrs. Myrtle Lind of Coon Rapids on October 2, 1948, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 22 days. In 1866 he moved to Kirkman in Shelby County, Iowa and in 1907 Mr. Thomas moved to Greene County where he lived on a farm until he lost his eyesight in 1923 at which time he came to live with his daughter in Coon Rapids. On October 15, 1884, at Rock Island, Illinois he was united in marriage to Kate Belle Carothers. To this union were born seven children, Myrtle Umbaugh Lind of Coon Rapids; Blanch McCamley of Lebanon, South Dakota; Flossie Cully of Chariton, Iowa; Le Nora Crews of Mountain View, California; George Thomas of Bayard, Iowa; Lew Thomas of Austin, Minnesota and Charles Thomas of Letcher South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 22, 1901, and by one grandson Elso Thomas of Austin, Minnesota who was killed in action in France in 1944. He is survived by his seven grandchildren, twelve grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, also one half sister in California and a half sister in New Jersey. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred McCamley of New Castle, Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Palmer and Betty Jean of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Thomas, jr. of Austin, Minnesota, Ronny Thomas of Austin, Minnesota, Thomas and Mrs Chas. Neal of Grand Junction, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Miller of Bagley, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Stewart and son of Topeka, Kansas and Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hathaway and sons of Mitchell, South Dakota.
