Burial will be made in St. Bonaventure cemetery, with military graveside services by the local Legion post. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gass chapel. Mr. Briggs, son of Matt and Anna Briggs, was born in Columbus March 5, 1890. He received his education at St. Francis School, which is now St. Bonaventure school. He left Columbus about 1912 to homestead at Arvada, Wyoming. In 1917, he enlisted in the army, serving for 27 months including some time overseas. After his discharge, he took another homestead in Wyoming and in 1928 moved to Cody. There he worked as a stone mason until about four years ago (1946) when he had to quit because of ill health. Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Skorupa of Duncan and Mrs. Mary (Gus) Boettcher of Columbus, and two half-sisters, Sr. M. Eleutheria of St. Joseph hospital in Omaha, and Mrs. Anna Nosal of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Tony and Joey, who died in infancy, John, Paul and Frank Briggs, and one half-sister, Mrs. Frank Czapla. ============== Columbus (Nebraska) Telegram Services Held Today - Funeral services for Charles J. ("Brownie") Briggs of Cody, Wyo., were held this morning at St. Bonaventure Catholic church, with the Rev. Martin Wolter officiating. Pallbearers were: E. C. Kavanaugh, Henry Kotlar, M. A. Boettcher, John Briggs, John Zipper and John Mimick. Burial was made in St. Bonaventure cemetery with full military rites. Walter Kopetzky was in full charge of the V.F.W. firing squad, which consisted of Dennis Placek, Ray Van Ackeren, Ralph Kopetzky, John C. Byrnes and Harvey Mueller. Color bearers were Ray Jaworski, and Jim Walters. Howard Burdick and Erwin Krumland represented the local Legion post.
