The San Bernardino Sun Obit March 13, 1952 JEFF DALEY, CITY PONEER, DIES Family Came West in 1851 by Ox Team C.J.Daley, 97, one of the most prominent of San Bernardino Valley's pioneers, died Wednesday morning at his home 1163 E street. In addition to being a San Bernardino native son, Daley had the distinction of being the son of two of the earliest pioneers of the district. Edward Daley Sr. and Nancy Hunt Daley, daughter of Jefferson Hunt. He was born Feb. 3, 1855, at the family home at third and EStreets, known as the Daley Tavern site of the present Andreson Building. His parents had been imued with the spirit of adventure and the desire to make a home in the west, and came to California in 1851 by ox team. HELPED BUILD ROAD Daley who was one of 11 children, secured what education he could in San Bernardino, but it, of necessity was limited, as he worked on his father's ranch. In later years he greatly supplemented his education. On the ranch he became thoroughly acquainted with the stock industry in all its branches, and was one of the best informed men in the state in this line. His father helped build the first road to Little Bear Valley, now Lake Arrowhead, under Captain Hunt, and in 1868-1869 he built the Daley road over which was hauled most of the lumber that built the city.
