Description	:	Charles Kimball Stearns, 76, died at 5:15 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his farm, three miles south of town, after an illness of several years. Funeral arrangements are for services at 2:30 Friday afternoon at Webb's chapel and interment in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Stearns was in Minneapolis, visiting a son at the time of her husband's death. Some years ago there were some brothers and sisters residing in Vermont, but the family has lost contact with them. Mr. Stearns was a native of Massachusetts and had been in North Dakota many years. ****** From The Bismarck Tribune, Thurs. June 12, 1930, Pg. 1 Charles Kimball Stearns used the surname Choate in the 1860 United States Census, state of Vermont. That was his mother's married name. Her husband, Charles' step-father, was named George Choate. Charles Kimball also used the surname Choate sometimes after moving back to Vermont from Wisconsin in the 1870's. After leaving Vermont in the mid-1880s, once again for Wisconsin, Charles apparently did not use the Choate name again. Charles Kimball Stearns emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada, with his sons Frank Arthur Stearns and Archie Jerome Stearns in 1917. He did not live there very long, and returned to North Dakota and his Bismarck area farm. It is fondly remembered by a grandchild that he returned to North Dakota because "it was too cold in Canada."
