Description	:	OBIT: TOLEDO, Monday, April 15--Charles Layton, 94 years old, resident of Lewis County since 1851, died Thursday night at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Bartlett in Tacoma. Mr. Layton resided in the Layton Prairie District, east of Toledo. Four children survive, O. M. Layton and Mrs. P. E. Ferrier, both of Toledo; Mrs. Pearl Read, Los Angeles, and Stephen Layton whose present address is unknown. Seattle Daily Times, April 15, 1929 OBIT 2: Lewis County's oldest pioneer, Charles Layton of Knab, died April 11. He celebrated his 94th birthday anniversary February 17. He was the son of Samuel Layton, who crossed the plains with his two sons, Francis and Charles, and J. C. Davis and family in 1849. The party arrived at Vancouver in the spring of 1851 and a few weeks later settled on what later was known as Layton's Prairie, five miles east of Toledo. He had lived in the county nearly 80 years. He was born in Philadelphia February 17, 1835. During the Indian Wars, he served under John H. Jackson of Jackson Prairie fame. He leaves two sons and two daughters, O. H.
