Funeral services for Mr. Mersch were held at the Immaculate Conception church at Masonville, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. M. J. O'Sullivan officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery at Masonville. The rosary was recited Monday and Tuesday evenings at the Shelly funeral home. Charles, son of Nicholas and Mary Frank Mersch, was born in log cabin on the parental farm in the Buck Creek area of Bremer county, Iowa. He grew to young manhood on the farm and received his education in the rural schools of Bremer county. Following his schooling he assisted in the operation of the home farm until marriage. He was united in marriage with Pearl E. Hempseed on Oct. 25, 1905, at the Immaculate Conception church at Fairbank. They engaged in farming in that area for two years and then moved to Willow Lake, S. D., where they farmed in that community until 1923. In 1923 they moved to Masonville to make their home and have lived there for the past 46 years. Mr. Mersch farmed and did well drilling in the Masonville community until failing health forced his retirement. Mr. Mersch has been a member of the Immaculate Conception parish at Masonville since moving to the community. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl H. Mersch of Masonville; two daughters, Mrs. Walker (Leila) Garrey of Masonville and Mrs. Wayne (LaVonne) Tegeler of Iowa City; two sons, Kenneth Charles Mersch of Cedar Rapids and Lyle G. Mersch of Masonville; twelve grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
