Charles Louis Marquardt passed away at his home in Riverside Tuesday Morning. Mr. Marquard last winter went to California in company with Richard Wagener. He returned home at a time when the weather was exceedingly cold, and a short time thereafter he had an attack of pneumonia. Read More	Charles Louis Marquard Passes Away at His Riverside Home Tuesday Morning Following an illness of but short duration. Charles Louis Marquardt passed away at his home in Riverside Tuesday Morning. Mr. Marquard last winter went to California in company with Richard Wagener. He returned home at a time when the weather was exceedingly cold, and a short time thereafter he had an attack of pneumonia. He had seemingly entirely recovered from that, but it recently with the result above recorded. News of his death went through Groton as distinct shock to many who had known Mr. Marquard from the early pioneer days, and the family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. Charles Louis Marquardt was born December 9, 1857, at Kulm Province, West Prussia, Germany. He lived there until nine years of age. He came with his widowed mother and sisters to this country in the year 1866. The family lived first at Stuart, Minnesota. He went to Watertown, S. D. in 1879. Later on he settled in _____, joined the Lutheran church and lived in this vicinity until the time of his death. In the year 1889 he was united in marriage with Alice Wegner. This union was blessed with eight children, _____ having died in 1904. He passed away at his home after a short illness, May 30, 1916, at 6:40 at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his loss besides Mrs. Marquardt, one sister, Mrs. August _____ of Putney, a half brother, _____ Borth, of Aberdeen; three daughters, Alice Lehman, of Three Forks, Mont.; Edna and Bertha; sons, _____ of Three Forks, Mont..; _____ and Freddie. The funeral took place at James, Saturday, June 3, Revs. Graef and _____ officiating. Interment was in Groton Union Cemetery. (The obituary is smudged and some words are illegible.)
